Pediatric Medicine
Families trust Unifour Family Practice to care for children from their very first days through young adulthood. Our providers build long-term relationships with families, guiding growth, development, and overall health through every stage.
Wellness and Preventive Care for All Ages
We believe that regular Well Child exams are essential to track growth and development and to detect any early signs of delay. These visits also give parents the chance to ask questions and receive guidance for each new milestone.
We care for children from newborn through adulthood, following the Well Child schedule recommended by the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Our practice also supports healthy lifestyles through programs like Kids in Parks, which provides family-friendly trails and outdoor activities. Through the TRACK Rx program, our providers can prescribe time outdoors as part of a child’s overall wellness plan.
Vaccines and Immunizations
We follow the vaccine schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the CDC. Research has clearly shown that vaccines are not linked to autism. While mild reactions such as local soreness or low-grade fever can occur, vaccines remain a safe and effective way to protect children from serious illness.
Dental Varnish
Oral health is an important part of overall health. To help prevent cavities, our providers prescribe fluoride supplements starting at six months of age for children whose water supply may not contain enough fluoride. Once a child’s first tooth appears, we apply fluoride varnish to the primary teeth a few times each year.
Sports Injuries
If your child has a sports-related injury, we can usually arrange an appointment within 24 hours for initial evaluation. Our providers are trained in the management of acute injuries and can refer to an orthopedist or other specialist when needed.
Physicals
School, Sports, Camp, and College
We provide the full range of child and adolescent physicals. Parents should bring all required forms at the time of the visit. A fee may apply if forms are not presented during the appointment.
Behavioral Health
Our providers evaluate and manage conditions such as ADHD and certain behavioral concerns in children and adolescents. We take a careful approach to diagnosis, using counseling resources when appropriate, and prescribe medication only when clearly indicated. Because many ADHD medicines are controlled substances, follow-up visits are required to monitor their effectiveness.
For Specialized Therapy
For more specialized therapy, we work with Cornerstone Counseling in Hickory through a co-management agreement.
Newborn Hospital Care
Our providers care for newborns at both Frye Regional Medical Center and Catawba Valley Medical Center. We also offer neonatal circumcision when requested.
Adolescent Health
Adolescence is a time of rapid change. Our providers use wellness visits to give teens and parents space for honest discussions about physical development, peer pressure, sexuality, social media use, and other challenges. Vaccines recommended during this time include HPV and meningococcal meningitis.
Chronic Medical Management
We provide ongoing care for chronic pediatric conditions such as allergies, asthma, acne, and ADHD. Appointments can be scheduled at times that minimize disruption to school schedules.
